At DivvyTrip, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
When you use DivvyTrip, we collect the following information:
- Account Information: Email address and display name (required for authentication and identification)
- Email Verification: We verify your email address to ensure you own it and to prevent unauthorized access to trips
- Trip Data: Trip names, destinations, dates, participants, expenses, and settlements you create
We do NOT collect: Payment information, personal financial account details, or device identifiers for tracking across apps or websites.
Location Data: DivvyTrip optionally uses your location to suggest expense titles and categories when adding expenses. Location data is processed locally on your device and is never stored, transmitted, or shared with any server. Location services are only used when you enable the "Use Location" feature in Settings and only when you are actively adding an expense. You can disable location services at any time in iOS Settings.
Analytics & Performance Monitoring: We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring to understand how the app is used and to identify technical issues:
- Firebase Analytics: Tracks anonymous usage data such as app launches, screen views, and feature usage. This helps us understand which features are most valuable to users and make informed decisions about app improvements. Data collected includes: app version, device model, operating system version, and general app usage patterns. No personally identifiable information is collected.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring: Tracks app performance metrics (screen load times, network request speeds) to help us identify and fix performance issues. This data is anonymized and does not include personal information.
- Opt-out: You can disable analytics tracking by turning off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, though this may limit our ability to improve the app experience.
Payments and Purchases
DivvyTrip is a paid app ($2.99 one-time purchase) available on the Apple App Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store:
- We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information
- All billing and payment data is managed by Apple
- Your purchase is subject to Apple's terms and conditions
- There are no subscriptions, recurring fees, or additional in-app purchases
The expense data you track within the app (amounts you enter for trip expenses) is stored in your Firebase account but is never used for payment processing.
Email Verification
To protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized access, DivvyTrip uses secure authentication methods:
- Sign in with Apple: Uses your Apple ID for secure authentication. Your email is automatically verified by Apple.
- Continue with Google: Uses your Google account for secure authentication. Your email is automatically verified by Google.
- Email/Password: When you sign up with email, we send a verification link to your email address. You must click the link to verify you own the email address.
- Email verification prevents others from creating accounts with your email and accessing trips associated with it
- Once verified, you can access trips and be linked to existing trip participants using your email
Why email verification matters: When someone imports a trip from another app or adds you as a participant using your email, email verification ensures that only you (the actual email owner) can access that trip data.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the DivvyTrip service
- Verify your email address to protect your account and prevent unauthorized access
- Link you to trips where you were added as a participant by email
- Sync your data across your devices
- Send invitation emails and verification emails when you request them
- Respond to your support requests
- Notify you about important updates or changes
- Understand app usage patterns through Firebase Analytics to improve features and user experience
- Monitor app performance and identify technical issues
Note: Analytics data collected through Firebase Analytics (app launches, screen views, feature usage) and Performance Monitoring (technical performance metrics) is anonymous and aggregated. We use this data solely to improve the app and fix issues. We do not track individual user behavior patterns or share this data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Firebase (provided by Google):
- Encryption in Transit: All data is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS when transmitted between your device and our servers
- Encryption at Rest: Your data is automatically encrypted on Google's secure servers using industry-standard encryption
- Secure Authentication: We use Firebase Authentication with email verification to protect your account
- Access Controls: Firestore security rules ensure only you and trip participants you invite can access your trip data through the app
- Administrative Access: As the app developer and Firebase administrator, we have technical access to the database for support, debugging, and service maintenance purposes. We do not access, review, or share your personal data except as required for these purposes or as outlined in this policy
- No Third-Party Access: Your data is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes
What We Don't Do

- ✗ We do NOT share your data without your consent
- ✗ We do NOT track you across other apps or websites
Data Sharing
We only share your data in these specific situations:
- With Trip Participants: When you add someone to a trip, they can see that trip's expenses and settlements
- Service Providers: We use Firebase (Google) for data storage and authentication—they follow strict privacy standards
- Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our legal rights
We will NEVER sell your personal information to third parties.
Your Rights and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: You can view all your data within the app
- Export: Export trip data as CSV files (Trip menu → "Export as CSV") or email summaries from the Settle tab
- Delete: You can delete trips, expenses, or your entire account at any time
- Control Sharing: You decide who to invite to your trips
- Opt-out: You can stop using the app at any time and request data deletion
Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time directly from the app:
- How to Delete: Go to Settings → Scroll to the bottom → Tap "Delete Account"
- What Gets Deleted: All your personal data, trips you created, expenses, settlements, and your authentication account
- Immediate Effect: Once confirmed, the deletion is permanent and cannot be undone
- Shared Trips: If you created a trip and added other participants, deleting your account will delete that trip for everyone
- Timeline: Account deletion is processed immediately upon confirmation
Before Deleting: You can export your trip data to keep a record:
- Export All Trips: Go to Settings → Data Export → "Export All My Trips" to save a ZIP file with all your trips as CSV files
- Export Individual Trip: Open any trip → Tap the menu (•••) in the top left → "Export as CSV"
Third-Party Services
DivvyTrip uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google): For authentication, data storage, analytics, and performance monitoring. Firebase Privacy Policy | Google Privacy Policy
- Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymous usage data (app version, device type, feature usage) to help us understand how the app is used and make improvements. Analytics data is processed by Google and subject to their privacy policies. No personally identifiable information is collected or shared.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring: Collects anonymized app performance metrics (screen load times, network speeds) to help us identify and fix technical issues. No personal information or usage behavior is tracked.
- ExchangeRate-API: For currency conversion rates. No personal data is sent to this service.
Children's Privacy
DivvyTrip is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
International Users
DivvyTrip is available worldwide. Your data may be stored in servers located in different countries. By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside your country of residence.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and, if necessary, by sending you a notification through the app.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account using the "Delete Account" button in Settings, we will immediately and permanently delete:
- Your user profile and authentication credentials
- All trips you created (including expenses and settlements)
- Your associations with any trips
- All personal information we have collected
Account deletion is immediate and permanent. We do not retain any personal data after account deletion, except where required by law for legal compliance or dispute resolution.
